Chic moms raise funds for charity
A group of local women volunteer their time to help raise funds for charitable causes by selling high-end second hand clothing.

THE local fundraising group, Chic Mamas Do Care Durban, recently hosted its third Charity Fashion Exchange Event and raised a whopping R34 000 which will be donated to various charity organisations.
The Westville Boys’ High School Griffin Room was made available by the school and the NPO team converted it into a classy retail shop.
The volunteer Mamas sell excellent quality, no longer wanted clothing and accessories donated by individual supporters, clothing retailers, boutiques and designers to raise funds for early childhood development projects in disadvantaged local crèches. The recent fashion exchange raised R34 000 which will be used to fund educational equipment for crèches overseen by the Feed the Babies Fund, as well as equipment for several crèches in Chesterville, including the Inkanyezi Creche.
Major projects completed since the first fashion exchange, which took place in October last year, include a comprehensive vegetable garden installed at a centre that cares for Aids orphans and children in need in Cleremont. A jungle gym that was installed for grade R pupils at Christianenburg Primary School and the funding of two Waste2Toys workshops, presented by well known NPO, Singakwenza, to equip and enrich 100 Grade R teachers from Cleremont and rural schools.
“Community involvement is crucial to the realisation of Chic Mamas’ projects. Ongoing garment donations and support at fashion exchange events is what changes lives,” said Jenny Du Bois, coordinator for Chic Mamas Do Care.
To this end they collect garment donations on an ongoing basis.
