Romance still blooms after 60 years

Stan and Jean Adams celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last week Thursday.

LOVING Hillcrest couple, Stan and Jean Adams, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on 18 September.

The couple met shortly after Stan had completed his national service with the army. They both attended a dance at the Royal Dancehall at Tottenham where he asked her for a dance and hours later offered to walk her to the station. “Immediately after that I asked if I could see her again and the romance blossomed from there,” said Stan.

Two years later they were married at St Thomas’s Church in Seven Kings in Essex and spent a week in Maldon in a chalet for their honeymoon. “There was no electricity when we were there so we had to use candles. It was all very romantic,” laughed Jean.

In 1956 the couple welcomed their only child, Linda, into the world and four years later they chose to emigrate to the sunny shore of Durban. “It was for a much better life, from a new job offer for Stan and the beautiful weather,” said Jean.

Stan was a boiler engineer while Jean professed that she held the title of a loving housewife. In their spare time he enjoys wood work while Jean used to donate her time at the Highway Aged as well as Meals on Wheels.

The couple said their marriage has remained strong throughout they years as they have respect for each other and they share everything. Stan and Jean celebrated the milestone in their marriage with a lunch with their daughter last Thursday and family and friends joined them last Sunday for a celebratory luncheon.
