THREE poachers were arrested just moments after they shot a Bushbuck in Shongweni on Heritage Day.
The Shongweni K9 unit’s Lt Neil Thaver said two of the unit’s officers were patrolling the area when they received a tip off that there were poachers near the mushroom farm in Shongweni.
Sgt Ashraf Mahomed and Cst Andreas Siboza parked their police car on the side of the road and continued their search on foot at about 3pm.
“Just moments after they started their foot patrol, with their police dogs in tow, the officers heard a gunshot and ran in the direction they heard the shot being fired,” Lt Thaver added.
Three men, who were in possession of a rifle with a scope, were arrested on scene and taken to Hillcrest SAPS.
It is alleged that the men did not have hunting permits.
