The truck driver in the Field’s Hill tragedy Sanele May is to appear in the Durban High Court court today, where he is expected to plead guilty to 24 counts of culpable homicide.
May was arrested last year after his truck ploughed through an intersection on Field’s Hill in Pinetown, smashing into four minibus taxis and two cars.
Twenty-four people died in the horrific incident, and May has since been in custody after being denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate Court in October of last year.
May initially faced 24 counts of murder, but these were later changed to culpable homicide charges.
Despite being in prison for this period, in one of his most recent letters posted on his Facebook support page May said he was still hopeful and urges supporters to keep him in their prayers.
