Nicola receives Kloof’s Dux award

The top three pupils of Kloof High School were announced at its Speech Day recently.

KLOOF High School hosted its 54th annual Speech Day where trophies were awarded to the matrics who had achieved top honours academically.

The principal’s awards are always a surprise and this year they went to Jeremy Jansen van Rensburg, Shannon McGee, Sithembele Makanya and Simphiwe Maqhawe Ngubane. This was in recognition of the contributions they made to the school during their five years at Kloof High. The Dux for 2014 was Nicola Fryer, runner up to Dux was Jessica Barraclough and third in Grade 12 was Jason Phillips.

The guest speaker was Andrew Bonamour, past pupil and CEO of Times Media and a board member of companies both in South Africa and in London. In his speech he encouraged the matrics to make the most of every opportunity. “My objective is to tell you that anything is possible, all it takes is a lot of hard work, energy and belief in one’s self. As you mature your success will change and you will note that it is not about financial gains but about influencing the lives of others. Know that your mistakes are your own unique way of getting where you need to be and if you fail you try again.”
