Gillitts pupils show they care

A group of pupils from Gillitts Primary School recently pampered and provided entertainment for the elderly.

A GROUP of pupils and teachers from Gillitts Primary School visited the Saligram Home for the Aged in Chatsworth and entertained it residents with two wonderful shows.

It was also a way of giving back to society as the school has been given numerous sponsorships from the home in recent years and was also part of its social responsibility programme.

Prior to the trip, the school embarked on a collection campaign and pupils were encouraged to take in items that would be given to the home. “The response by pupils, as well as the teachers, was overwhelming as a large range of items from toiletries to facecloths and food-stuff were collected,” said Arti Jadoo, principal of Gillitts Primary School.

The group of talented pupils entertained the elderly with a dance and modelling show, with some of the home’s residents joining in on the fun. Afterwards the pupils pampered them by offering make-overs.”The inter-action between the pupils and the elderly was indeed a sight to behold,” said Arti.

The residents of the home were extremely grateful when presented with the donation of goods. “The management of the home presented a gift to the school as a token of appreciation and praised the pupils and staff for their efforts in making the day joyous and memorable for the elderly residents of the home,” said Arti.
