Large donation strengthens Open Door
The Muscle and Fitness in Pinetown, along with Mrs India SA's first runner up, handed over a combined donation of more than R7 500 to the local NPO.
THROUGH a joint project between Muscle and Fitness Pinetown and Mrs India SA’s first runner up, the Open Door Crisis Care Centre received a combined donation of R5 000 and R2500 worth of grocery items.
The Mrs India SA princess said throughout the years she has made donations to the local NPO and now, with the title behind her, she has adopted them as a charity for 2015. “I plan on helping them every month next year,” said Desney Lee Nadar, Mrs India SA’s first runner up.
She approached her gym and asked them to become involved with the local charity. “Muscle and Fitness started the drive with a R5000 donation and both encourage and challenge the community to meet or beat their donation,” said Desney.
Peter Wilson, the co-owner of the gym, said they were only too happy to become involved as the Open Door Crisis Centre is a worthy cause and as a father, he could not bare to see children being abused. “If there is any way we can help decrease the abuse and increase the help they receive, we will do that as you never know what the future holds for these children, one of them could be a future leader of the country,” said Wilson.
The R2500 grocery donation included a variety of goodies, from juices and maize meal to sugar, baked beans and a few toys. “The work that Open Door does is phenomenal and with each donation they receive, it will create so many smiles and seeing the children so happy makes it all worth it,” said Desney.
Thora Mansfield, director at Open Door Crisis Centre thanked them for their generous donation and noted that it was great to receive the goods during the 16 Day of Activism. Her goal before the end of the year is to create 300 hampers for children and a further 300 food hampers for families in Pinetown and the surrounding rural areas.
