Whitehouse centre needs your help
Chili together with his wife, Hlengiwe started a home called Sithembakuye Children's Home in 2004 which was recently renamed Whitehouse Community Centre.
GROWING up without his biological mother, inspired KwaNyuswa resident, Sithembiso Chili to open a home for orphans and abused children.
Chili together with his wife, Hlengiwe started a home called Sithembakuye Children’s Home in 2004 which was recently renamed Whitehouse Community Centre.
The centre also looks after elderly people and disabled children.
Chili said his mother died when he was three months old.
“I found out at a later stage that the woman I have known almost all my life is not my biological mother.
“She took care of me, we did not have much but she tried everything to provide for me,” he said.
Chili believes that is the reason why he started a children’s home.
“There are so many children out there who have nobody.”
The couple also feeds the elderly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
“It has been bothering me because we only feed them two days a week. What do they eat for the rest of the week?” said Chili.
Some of the old people who live in the home are on medication.
“If they do not eat accordingly and take their medicine they default,” added Chili.
The home which has five volunteers would be grateful for donations as they are in need of pillows, gowns, linen, six hospital beds, two wheelchairs, a fridge, microwave, side cupboards and a TV for their new home for the elderly.
Whitehouse Community Centre looks after 15 children and 10 elderly people.
Chili said he is grateful to the people who have continuously supported him all these years, Hillcrest AIDS centre, Lions raw, Southern Hills Rotary Club, Durban Rotary Anns Goodwill and Growth for Africa (GAGA) UK.
