Sewage spill contaminates Palmiet River

The Palmiet River was polluted with sewage that caused thick white foam to form in the river on Monday, 8 December.

THICK, white foam, accompanied by extremely murky water washed down the Palmiet River on Monday, 8 December.

Residents along the river noticed the foam, accompanied by a foul odour, late on Monday afternoon. Lee D’Eathe from the Palmiet River Watch said members of the watch reported the river pollution to the municipality.

It was found that a sewer pump in Blair Road, New Germany was awash with sewage. It is believed there was a sewerage blockage in Krishna Lane in Pinetown.

Christopher Zubane also spotted foam in the river on Tuesday, 9 December.
