Change in matinee time for Aladdin
All 2.30pm shows of Aladdin will now be changed to 1.30pm until 11 January due to load shedding.
DUE to the ongoing and unpredictable threat of load-shedding throughout December and January, the producers of the festive family panto, Aladdin, have made a decision to move all 2.30pm performances to 1.30pm for the duration of the season.
This is based on the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre and UKZN’s current configuration to block “L” which results in the power being cut off at 4pm in the event of load-shedding.
At this point in time, all evening performance remain as scheduled.
Ticket agents, Computicket, have been informed and should be contacting all customers who have already bought tickets.
“All 2.30pm shows of Aladdin will now be changed to 1.30pm until 11 January due to load shedding. On behalf of KickstArt, we apologise profusely for the inconvenience but wishes to make sure our patrons get the full pleasure and experience of our Christmas pantomime,” said KickstArt Executive Director, Steven Stead.
“We have looked into other methods of solving this crisis – including the use of a temporary generator. Unfortunately, this would entail a special interface panel being manufactured for our substation, which cannot be done until the suppliers re-open next year. A permanent installation of a generator for our building will cost in the region of R400 000 to R600 000, in addition to monthly maintenance costs and diesel costs. This is prohibitively expensive for a non-profit venue,” said Jackie Cunniffe: Director: Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at UKZN Howard College Campus.
The annual KickstArt pantomime is a much-anticipated event on Durban’s calendar, and this year the company is dazzling old and young alike with the magical adventures of Aladdin and his enchanted lamp which is now running at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at UKZN until 11 January, 2015.
The show features popular songs, jokes galore, glamorous costumes, and sumptuous sets ranging from a Cave of Wonders full of dancing jewels to a golden Chinese palace. Its stars Bryan Hiles (Wishee Washee), Darren King (Widow Twankey), Iain Robinson (Abanazar, the evil magician), Georgina Mabbett (Princess Jasmine) and Rory Booth (Genie of the Ring). This pantomime also introduces exciting newcomer Nathan Kruger as Aladdin.
