Musos step up to support benefit concert for Seth Parkin

Everyone enjoyed the jam packed music concert in aid of Seth Parkin.

DURBAN’s most loved artists stepped up to the plate in support of up-and-coming artist, Seth Parkin, at the Crescendo Live Music Benefit gig at Westville Boys’ High School’s Roy Couzens Auditorium on Sunday, 26 April.

Seth is known to many in Durban’s music circles as the ‘young drummer monster’, who was once part of the successful young band, New Hysteria. He and two other friends, Aury Livingstone and Pascal Koch, started the band when they were 14 years old. As he and the other members grew older, they took the changes of life in their stride and pursued their own musical interests. Aury and Pascal are both rising stars as solo artists.

Seth now drums for the band Carnage Carnival and recently started performing as a duo again on occasion with Aury Livingstone.

Drumming for Carnage Carnival is a complete turn in genre from his early years. He is making great progress with the opportunity afforded him, yet he is still a music student who has a few years of college ahead of him.

Seth hosted this benefit gig for his dad, who turned 60 last month. When Seth asked his dad what he wanted, he said he wanted to see him perform with all the artists he had played with since he started at the age of 13. He said his dad has been his roadie since he started and has only missed two gigs he played since then.

He was also grateful to all the artists who performed on the night. “Their support means a lot and they have volunteered their time and talent to help me out. Knowing Durban musos, I shouldn’t have been surprised- supporting each other is second nature,” said Seth.

Crescendo offered a cross pollination of music and musicians from all corners of Durban. The genres and styles were across the board and various musical tastes was catered for – from the ‘petal’ sounds of the 60s folk music to the thunder of modern metal.

Artists included Seth Parkin, Aury Livingstone, Ross Tapson, Jason Andrew, John Chamier, The Collective Cartel, Grant Halliday, Andy Turrell, John Skuy, Salty Dog, Sarah, Jason Frau, Nicole Couto-Leite and Bookendz Will Wallace, Carnage Carnival and more.
