R108 000 worth of goods stolen in Westville home invasion

Police are still investigating the house-breaking case.

SIX men broke into a house in Neptune Road in Westville nearly a month ago, but police have still not made any arrests.

According to Christopher Allen, he and his wife, Monika, and tenant, Sean McGee (who lives in a cottage next to the main building) were all at home on 1 April at around 6.45pm when the robbers cut through the fence below his driveway and ran into McGee”s courtyard.

They shouted at McGee to shut up, at gunpoint, and grappled him into the cottage while one man jumped into the Allens’ courtyard. The man rushed through the only door, which was open, where Monika was in the kitchen making coffee.

He allegedly pointed a gun at her face and ordered her to lie down on the floor. Allen said he heard her scream twice, and knew something was wrong. He grabbed his pepper spray and stun gun, but before he could turn around the man was standing in front of him with a gun pointed to his face, he said.

“I placed everything on the bed, put my hands up and said he can take whatever he wanted, but he pushed me to the kitchen where Monika was, had our faces to the floor and another man armed with a gun watching us at all times while they ransacked the house,” said Allen.

Allen said the men demanded to know where the safe was, and took him back and forth from the kitchen to look for money, keys to his VW Caddi and the rings from his and Monika’s fingers. They also kicked him in the ribs.

Allen said the men fledĀ  after they triggered a noise alarm, but before they fled they got some rope and a knife and tied up all three residents, leaving them in the kitchen. They loaded Allen’s vehicle with goods and kicked in the driveway gates, breaking them off the hinges and breaking the motor.

The trio untied themselves after a few minutes and called 10111 from a spare phone and pressed the panic alarm four times. Within minutes the police were on the scene. The vehicle was recovered in Cato Manor the next day.

“I want to say thank you to the police – both Westville and Pinetown SAPS – and my neighbours for their assistance. R108 000 worth of goods were stolen, including a TV, laptops, an iPad, cellphones, money, jewellery, cameras and Monika’s handbag, which contained all of her important documents,” said Allen.

The police were unavailable for comment.
