SA to defend their title at Polocrosse World Cup

SA will be looking to retain their world championship status.

Support the reigning world champions – South Africa – as they take on seven other nations in the 2015 Polocrosse World Cup at the Durban Shongweni Club from 3 to 5 July and 10 to 12 July.

The events promise action-packed and exhilarating sport combined with stamina, horsemanship, speed, agility and ball-skills as SA hosts teams from UK, USA, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Zambia and Zimbabwe in the first ever Polocrosse World Cup in Africa.

The eight teams will be divided into two pools of four, which will battle it out for the top spots. The top two teams from each pool will advance into the semi-finals and the finals.

South Africa will supply over 150 A-grade polocrosse horses to the tournament. Games will take place from 9am to 5pm each day with four games per day.

South Africa won the 2011 World Cup after a toughly-contested event against Australia in England, and are seeking to defend their title.

“It has been gratifying to note how the talent and hard work of our polocrosse community has been rewarded with such a swift rise to premier position in the sport’s international rankings,” said André Truter, president of PASA (the Polocrosse Association of South Africa).

“We are excited to test our mettle against our international peers once again and will do our utmost to keep this World Cup trophy on African soil.”
