Traffic was severely affected in both directions as emergency personal worked to clear the scene.

SIXTEEN people were injured when the taxi they were travelling in lost control and rolled on the N2 north-bound near Westwood Mall around 5pm on Sunday, 30 August.

According to Rescue Care’s operations director, Garrith Jamieson, paramedics arrived on the scene to find that the taxi had come to rest on its side on the centre median.

Injured passengers lay strewn around and some people were ejected when the taxi rolled over several times. More ambulances were immediately called to assist as well as advanced life support units.

“Once all of the sixteen people had been stabilised on the scene they were transported by various ambulances to various Durban Hospitals for further care, ” said Jamieson.

Traffic was severely affected in both directions as emergency personal worked to clear the scene.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and roll over, however the local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
