Crime stats to be revealed
Enforce Security crime stats have revealed that there was also an increase of women involvement in the committing of both residential and business crimes.

THE Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, and the National Commissioner of Police, General Riah Phiyega, will be presenting the national crime statistics to the police portfolio committee tomorrow, Tuesday, 29 September
Enforce Security has revealed that armed robberies at both businesses and homes, as well as residential burglaries, hijackings and gate derailings, have increased in many parts of KZN over the past year, therefore urging both residents and businesses to be more vigilant.
Analysing its own crime trends over the past year, both Nico Potgieter (head of investigations at Enforce) and Derek Lategan (Enforce director: guarding), said armed robberies at both residential properties and businesses had increased.
Potgieter said the rate of residential burglaries, vehicle thefts and gate derailings had also gone up, while, according to Lategan, service stations and retail outlets had become increasingly popular business targets for armed robberies.
“There was also an increase of women involvement in the committing of both residential and business crimes,” they said.
Potgieter and Lategan said the increase in the aforementioned crimes were due to increased opportunities for criminals, as well as the prevalence of repeat offenders. Although arrests were being made by police, offenders were being released for various reasons and were then continuing their crime sprees.
The pair said the only way to tackle the increasing crime rate was for communities, security companies, businesses, and the police to work together, share information and strive towards the same goals.
