
THE Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit officers arrested a 41-year-old security guard for rape at Edgewood College on Tuesday, 22 September.
According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, the security guard allegedly raped a colleague on Monday, 21 September.
“The victim reported that she was called by his superior colleague to sign some forms in his office. The man allegedly forced the victim to take off her clothes and he then raped her.
“A case was opened at Pinetown SAPS and the man was arrested on the school premises.”
UKZN executive director for the corporate relations division, Lesiba Seshoka, said the university confirmed that a security guard from an outsourced security company was arrested for the alleged rape of another security guard from the same company.
“The matter is being handled by the South African Police Services (SAPS). The university has also opened its own internal investigation into the matter,” he said.
The man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrste’s Court last Friday and was remanded into Westville Prison. He is due to appear again on Friday, 2 October for a formal bail application.
