Catch award-winning saxophonist at UKZN

During the tour, the group will showcase their newly-recorded album, 'Ubuntu'.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music is proud to present, award winning saxophonist, Ivan Mazuze.

Mazuze is a Norway-based composer and world jazz artist of Mozambican origin. He will play release concerts with a quartet that includes Frank Paco (drums), Peter Ndlala (bass), Dave Ledbetter (guitar) and Sifiso Makalisa on piano The quartet presents progressive African jazz at its very best.

Saxophonist and composer, Mazuze leads the quartet in a playful interaction. There are melodies with a background of southern Africa sound traditions mixed with contemporary West African drumming traditions, deeply planted in jazz harmony with electric bass and improvisation on guitar and acoustic piano, improvising with jazz and African music.

The quartet/quintet presents a picture of contemporary African jazz with a focus on improvisation. The melodies are based on and inspired by African music mixed with modern drumming tradition.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, 7 October at 6pm at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), level two, Shepstone Building, UKZN Howard College Campus.
