
A PINETOWN woman who was threatened with a hammer spoke to the Highway Mail about her ordeal which took place on Saturday, 2 January.
The victim, Gillian Fitchat said she was sleeping when she was woken up by someone who was punching her in the chest.
“When I opened my eyes there was a man standing over me with a hammer raised ready to strike me. He told me to wake up and give him my rings and not to scream.
Fitchat said the man tied her up with her husbands tie and walked her around the house making her point out all of the valuables.
“After few minutes, I heard my phone ringing in his pocket and I told him my husband is now coming home, to which he started to panic. He then took me back upstairs and tied me to the bathroom towel rail and locked the door,” she said.
Fitchat managed to untie herself quietly as she heard a car in the complex getting ready to leave.
“I used the tie he tied me with to flag the neighbour who called Blue security who came out to assist me in a matter of minutes.
She said she did not know when she flagged her neighbour down that the robber was still in the house.
“The fast response of Blue security and there after of SAPS the criminal was apprehended at the taxi rank in Pinetown.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer confirmed the incident and said the alleged robber was arrested by Pinetown Police in the CBD.
“It is alleged that on Saturday, 2 January at approximately 7am, a man entered a flat in Lello Road Pinetown and threatened the victim with a hammer he found inside the house.
“The victim was also tied up with a tie and the robber stole a laptop, two cameras, jewelry and other items,”.Police received the description of the man and proceeded to the Pinetown CBD to look for the suspect.
“Upon arrival at Esibayeni area in the CBD police spotted the suspect who had the same description given to them earlier.
Manqele said the man was found in possession of a laptop and two cameras that were stolen during
the house robbery.
Fitchat added that she would like to thank Pinetown SAPS and Blue security for assisting her so promptly on the day
“I only got three items back but the main thing was that I was not murdered during this incident,” she said.
