FOUR members of the Pinetown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) were awarded for their investigation into a series of rape cases.
W/O Sihle Ntuli, Cst Siboniso Mtshali, Sgt Ethel Ndlovu and Cst Lihle Mlotshwa received recognition from the community and businesses.
A series of rape cases were reported between September and January in the Pinetown area with the same modus operandi.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer, W/O Muzi Maphumulo said, “It is alleged the suspect befriended the victims and asked them to accompany him to withdraw money at the bank. The man then led them to a secluded area where he raped the victims and also robbed them of their belongings.”
The victims are between the ages of 11 and 27. The man was arrested on Wednesday, 18 of January in the Pinetown CBD.
The man was denied bail and has been linked to 11 other cases. The four officers received a R500 hamper from Boxer Limited.
