Local school wins library award

The competition looked at the technique used to issue books, whether the learners had been borrowing books and the relationship the library had with the school curriculum.

QUEENSBURGH Girls’ High School recently received the accolade of having the best urban high school library at the Schools Library Excellence Awards.

Librarian Chipo Tagwira said they had to make a few changes to ensure they come out the best but most of the elements that contributed to the win has already been implemented by the school.

The competition looked at the technique used to issue books, whether the learners had been borrowing books and the relationship the library had with the school curriculum.

“The library committee and the monitors worked hard creating displays and awareness campaigns for the learners,” said Tagwira.

According to the librarian, the awards were a great opportunity to network with other school librarians and share ideas and information.

School principal, Thiru Motheeram, said they are thrilled to be recognised for their efforts.

“When we started renovations we had a vision to create a direct relationship with the library, the learning process and curriculum,” she said.
