Buckle up this Easter weekend
The eThekwini Municipality urges motorists to drive responsibly this Easter weekend as it prepares for an influx of visitors to the City.
AS the country prepares for the Easter holiday this coming weekend, the City said road safety is one of its top priorities.
“Durban attracts a large number of local and international travellers during the Easter period and is ready to deal with the high traffic volumes expected,” said Mthunzi Gumede, eThekwini Municipality’s mayoral spokesman.
A joint awareness campaign by the eThekwini Transport Authority, Metro Police, RTI and SANRAL officials to educate taxi drivers and passengers about road safety at various taxi ranks around the City kick-started on Monday, 26 March.

A week-long road safety campaign is expected to cover most taxi and bus ranks, especially the long-distance public transport ranks in eThekwini.
The campaign will conclude with an awareness raising motorcade, led by Mayor Zandile Gumede, which will run through the city on Thursday, 29 March to encourage the community to prioritise road safety.
The following tips can help reduce fatalities on the roads:
• Keep your eyes on the road at all times.
• Never use your cell phone.
• Ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before departure.
• Never, ever drink and drive.
• Follow speed limits.
• Always wear your seat belt.
• Take safety breaks every two hours or 200km
