WESSA and friends bid a fond farewell to Jean Job
Jean Job worked tirelessly for WESSA Highway Branch and was a volunteer at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
MEMBERS of the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) Highway Branch, family and friends, gathered at the Kloof and Highway SPCA tea garden on Tuesday, 20 March to celebrate the life of Kloof’s Jean Job.
Jean was married to Alan Job, chairman of the Highway Branch of WESSA for about 12 years, and was a trustee of the Ron Senogles Trust for environmental education for 20 years.
She shared the same passion for the environment as her husband, but had a particular love for animals.
Jean had a nasty fall a few weeks ago and was taken, for the first time in her life, to hospital.
Although she was on oxygen she battled to breathe and, due to the deteriorating condition of the lungs, died on Monday afternoon, 12 March.
In his eulogy, Alan said after joining the local Highway Branch of Wessa when they moved to South Africa from the United Kingdom, Jean and he had some wonderful times “out in the Bundu” on outings and organising events – their love of nature had found its full niche.
“We asked the local SPCA if we could become volunteers when not travelling and did so for roughly 10 years,” said Alan.
He said when Jean put her mind to anything, she did it fully, determined and resolute until she finished the job.
“This endeared me all the more to her, as we journeyed through life and she was a cornerstone in our marriage. If she agreed with me or if I needed support, she was there 100 percent. If she did not agree, she was there with alternate suggestions which we worked out together. We were not two persons but one person in two bodies.
“She knew she was gravely ill but still insisted that I carry on doing what we normally do, at home, at the SPCA at Wildlife or anywhere, no argument.
Jean Senogles, of WESSA described Jean as a cheerful, efficient and deeply caring person whom she’ll miss dearly.
“We in the Highway Branch of WESSA relied on her, in her quiet way, to keep us all on our toes. She was a great supporter of Alan in all his interests and as she loved animals, worked tirelessly for WESSA and a volunteer at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, with him. She loved her family and took great pride in her grandchildren’s many accomplishments,” said Senogles.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family were asked to make a donation to WESSA or the SPCA in memory of Jean.
