Alexia achieves 100 caps for netball

Hillcrest High School has chosen Alexia Tarr as its SPAR Star of the Month.

HILLCREST High School’s SPAR Star of the Month is the tenacious, Alexia Tarr, who has achieved her 100 caps for playing for Hillcrest High’s 1st team netball and for KZN representation under the dedicated leadership of coach, Emsonè Fourie.

The 17-year-old started playing sport in 2011 (Grade 4) and plays both netball and water polo.

Alexia’s favourite sport is definitely netball which she plays nearly every day for an hour and a half.

Alexia also does after school training and KZN team practices on weekends.

She seems to have found the right balance between her school work and sport. She adds sagely that “it comes down to prioritising and managing your time to get the work done”.

Alexia would like to continue playing netball when she leaves school to see how well she can do and eventually and eventually get into coaching and inspiring others.

She said her best sports experience and achievement was making it into the 1st team in Grade 9.

“I dreamed of it in primary school and I didn’t think I would achieve that goal as early as Grade 9,” she said.

She added that without a doubt her sporting hero is her coach, Ms. Fourie. “She is the sole reason I have got to where I am today. I have loved my sporting career at Hillcrest High School. It has really been amazing and all the teams are so supportive of each other, we really do have a family atmosphere,” said Alexia.

Finally, Alexia’s advice to others is to “keep pushing yourself and don’t ever think you’re not good enough, because you are.”
