Man shot dead while looking for landlord’s dog in Pinetown

Police recovered a stick and 14 spent cartridges on the scene.

A 34-YEAR-OLD man was found lying on the road, with gunshot wounds to his chest and head, in Caversham Glen on Saturday night.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said Pinetown police responded to a shooting incident which took place on Mariannridge Drive in Caversham Glen.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, who was renting a backroom in the area, was sleeping next to his girlfriend on that night and the girlfriend did not realise that he was not in bed anymore.

“Police were told by the landlord that she saw their dog walking out of the yard and her granddaughter asked the deceased to look out for the dog. They then heard gunshots,” said Manqele.

Police recovered a stick and 14 spent cartridges on the scene. No one has been arrested and a case of murder is being investigated by Pinetown SAPS.
