Jordyn steps boldly onto world stage

The local lass competed against the world's top dancers at the recent Blackpool Dance Festival.

JORDYN Alford, a Grade 12 learner at St Mary’s DSG, Kloof, is a dancing queen.

The talented dancer recently returned from Blackpool in the United Kingdom, where she competed in the Blackpool Dance Festival, well known as the most prestigious dance competition in the world.

Jordyn and her dance partner, Alain Rijnvis, competed in the ProAm event that topped 2 800 entries from 33 countries, within six different age groups. Alain Rijnvis, is considered a Professional (Pro) while Jordyn is an Amateur (Am). Together, they made it in to two semi-finals and one final across the Latin and ballroom categories. Jordyn’s dream has always been to compete in the Blackpool Dance Festival.

“This experience was mind-blowing and a dream come true. It exceeded all expectations!” said Jordyn.

Once the competition was over, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family while travelling in the UK before returning to home.

In 2017, Jordyn jetted off to New York to compete in her first overseas competition in the ProAm level championship and won all her sections in Latin and ballroom with her dance partner. Jordyn has been dancing since she was three years old and has tried ballet, modern dancing, tap dancing and hip-hop.

At nine years old she started Latin and ballroom dancing at Dance2Dance International and hasn’t looked back. Jordyn started her St Mary’s journey as a Little Saint in Grade R and is now giving back as a matriculant as a class monitor to a Grade R class, where she helps out each morning.
