Kloof SPCA still seek the ‘baaad’ guy

The owner of the goat, who lived in Westville at the time the goat was recovered, has reportedly disappeared.

CHARGES for animal cruelty are still pending against a Westville man after the Kloof and Highway SPCA were called in to rescue a goat last month.

The local animal welfare’s Brigitte Ferguson, said inspector Israel Silevu responded to a complaint about a goat tied to a tree with a short rope.

“He was horrified to find a young goat at the back of the premises without water or grazing. The goat was tied to a tree with such a short rope that it could barely move. It was underweight and dehydrated,” said Ferguson.

The inspector spoke to a few of the other tenants on the premises and they claimed to be unaware of the goat.

He was informed that the tenant, who lived in a building at the back of the premises where the goat was found, only visits the premises once every seven to 14 days.

Inspector Silevu contacted the landlord and requested permission to remove the goat.

“The goat was rushed to our clinic, where it was examined and found to be underweight and dehydrated, but otherwise healthy. It has since picked up weight and is so much happier being cared for at our SPCA, where it can run around and has shelter,” said Ferguson.

Ferguson noted that the owner of the goat has not contacted the Kloof and Highway SPCA and was informed that the man has since disappeared.

“We thank the caring member of the community who phoned our SPCA to report their concern for the welfare of the goat in a suburban area. We would like to remind the public that our SPCA is here to assist all animals of all species and, although not everyone is in the position to help an animal, everyone is in a position not to harm and animal and to report any animal welfare concerns and cruelty to our SPCA,” said Ferguson.
