The four armed men also fled with R50 000 worth of cigarettes.

AN amount of R500 000 and R50 000 worth of cigarettes were stolen from a Pinetown store this morning.

“As they entered the store via the receiving and despatch area, they saw the manager walking past,” said Manqele.

It is alleged that they grabbed the manager and took out their firearms.

According to Manqele, the robbers also disarmed the security guard and confiscated all the cellphones of the employees who were standing nearby.

“The suspects threatened them and instructed the manager to open the safe which he did. The men stole a sum of R 500 000 from the safe and also took cigarettes to the value of R50 000  before fleeing the scene. The security guard’s firearm and the employees’ cell phones were left in a bin outside the store by the suspects,” said Manqele.

The robbers fled in a white Golf GTI which was parked in front of the store. No shots were fired and no serious injuries were sustained.

A case of business robbery is being investigated by Pinetown police.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
