Mariannhill hijacker caught by K9 Unit

The second suspect is still at large.

ONE man was arrested by the SAPS K9 Unit for hijacking a vehicle in Mariannhill Park yesterday, August 4.

A woman was held up at gunpoint on Rudolph Road by two men who were wearing balaclavas. They forced her out of the vehicle and then fled the scene in the stolen car as well as in their own vehicle. The stolen vehicle was also used to hijack a truck and kidnap the driver.

“Police received information that the vehicle was spotted in Tshelimnyama. Upon their arrival, the vehicle was found abandoned and members of the public pointed out the direction the suspects fled. Police followed the trail and a 27-year-old man was arrested,” said KZN SAPS spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

The man was carrying a firearm as well as two rounds of ammunition and stolen property. He will appear in court soon. The second suspect evaded arrest and SAPS are following leads to catch the thief.
