Upper Highway clean-up unites community
The group met at the Shongweni on-ramp to Pietermaritzburg and managed to fill 225 black rubbish bags on a stretch of 1.5km.
MOVE ONE Million-Upper Highway group hosted a campaign to help the KZN Department of Transport clean up the sides of the M13.
The movers met at the Shongweni on-ramp to Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, August 7.

Group leader, Jane Schofield said they had a good turn out and were able to split the group in two, with a distance of 700 metres between each group.
“We were joined by four Metro police officers, who not only kept us safe from traffic, but joined in without even hesitating and put on gloves and filled rubbish bags with us.
Schofield said they were encouraged by the amount of happy, thankful, hoots from passing vehicles.
She added that they were also thankful to every person who participated in the clean up including learners from St Benedict School, Hillcrest Primary, Kearsney College and St Mary’s DSG in Kloof.

“What a pleasure it is to have young folk join in and set such a good example for the future generation.”
