Fabulous reads – Witty, zany, absurd novel will make you smile

Book review - Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd. by Jonas Jonasson.

Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd., Jonas Jonasson, Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 978 000 840 7551

I HAVE to confess I love Jonas Jonasson’s books as I’ve now read all of his novels. While The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared remains one of my all-time favourite books, his newest book, Sweet Sweet Revenge Ltd, does take you some time to warm up to. However, once you push through, it only gets better.

The plot centres around Victor Alderheim who tricks his young, ex-wife, Jenny, out of her art gallery inheritance and also abandons his son, Kevin, to die in the middle of the Kenyan savannah.

ALSO READ: Fabulous reads – Cute novel oozes with YA tropes

Kevin is rescued by Ole Mbatian (another central figure in the storyline and by far my favourite character), a medicine man from the Maasai Mara who helps Kevin, albeit unwittingly, travel back to Stockholm, where he crosses paths with Jenny.

Conveniently they run into a man selling revenge services, who has an ingenious idea involving getting back at Victor for his villainous deeds.
The first half of the novel is a tad confusing but I feel the book picked up considerably in the second half, especially when Ole Mbatian is introduced as a character who leaves his mark on the plot in hilarious fashion.

Overall, this book is a great read, maybe not quite as good as some of his other novels. For me, it certainly didn’t disappoint with a little light, zany entertainment. I would definitely recommend it.
