From across the globe to Mariannhill

Khethiwe Rehab Centre for children with disabilities receives an international donation.

HOPE was brought back to Khethiwe Rehab Centre for children with disabilities in Mariannhill as they received a donation from an international organisation.

Khethiwe is a therapy centre where children with cerebral palsy and other neurological impairments from disadvantaged communities, who cannot afford to pay for it, can come for comprehensive treatment.

Khethiwe also serves as a place to come home to, a safe haven for mothers and families to learn the skills they need to support their children in the best possible way.

To continue with their work, the organisation received a donation of rehab equipment from PhysioNet, an organisation based in the United Kingdom. PhysioNet is a charity organisation that supplies marginalised communities with surplus and redundant rehab equipment.

Speaking on the donation, Khethiwe founder Glenys Ross said she had met with a trustee from PhysioNet.
“They were happy to learn about Khethiwe, and we have been sent a 40ft container load of beautiful children’s rehabilitation equipment. There is first class equipment for every one of our children. It looks wonderful,” said Ross.

Ross said when she received the news that they will be receiving the donation, she learnt that she had to pay taxes for the equipment to be shipped.
“While raising funds towards that tax fee, we also received a generous donation from our friends who were looking to contribute to a good cause. We also received help from the Chatsworth Rotary Club who assisted in the smooth sailing of the delivery of the equipment,” said Ross.

The equipment that was donated to Khethiwe included positioning chairs, standing frames, walkers, walking frames, orthotics and boots, some wheelchairs and buggies, toys, therapy equipment and pressure-care mattresses.

“This is way, way beyond our wildest dreams for our kiddies, and we are so incredibly grateful. PhysioNet, we salute you for the amazing work that you are doing to change the lives of people with disabilities worldwide.”

Ross said they are also thankful to the friends of the organisation who contributed to the receiving of their donation from PhysioNet.
