Planned power outage at Westmead substation to affect Pinetown and surrounding areas

The maintenance will help improve the reliability of the substation.

ETHEKWINI Municipality is advising the public of a planned outage that will interrupt electricity supply on Saturday, June 10 from 08:00 to approximately 20:00.

Pinetown North, Pinetown West, Ashley, Mahogany Ridge, Motala Heights, Caversham Glen, Mariannhill, Tshelimnyama and Westmead will be affected.

According to the City the power outage is scheduled so that the eThekwini Electricity department can perform urgent switchgear maintenance at Westmead Substation to improve the reliability of the substation.

“The maintenance will also improve the quality of supply to the area. Therefore, it is necessary to interrupt electricity supply. This maintenance will take place in phases over weekends and required outages will be communicated to the public,” said the City.

The first phase of the maintenance, planned for June 10, requires half of the switchboard to be interrupted at Westmead Substation.

“Approximately 50% of the customers supplied from Westmead Substation will be affected. Customers in the affected areas are urged to plan for this outage. However, customers that are not switched off by 09:00, can assume that they will not be affected by this outage.”

For further information and inquiries relating to the outage, call the contact centre on 080 3111 111.
