THE Hillcrest Conservancy has welcomed the reconstruction of the Springside Nature Reserve bridge, which was damaged during the 2022 floods.
The bridge, which forms part of the trails in the reserve, was repaired courtesy of the Durban Ramblers Hiking Club, who sponsored the repair costs.

The club, a community that organises guided hiking and walking trips in beautiful areas in Durban, completed the repairs about two weeks ago, and the bridge is now ready for public use.
Biff Mags of the club said the 92-year-old club has been hiking at the Springside Nature Reserve since its inception. “We have also, over the years, held a few functions there too. We hold hikes in all the nature reserves in and around Durban. Whenever we hike, we donate to the conservancy, because it is a group of volunteers, and we like to contribute.”

Hillcrest Conservancy chairman George Victor said the initiative by the club is very symbolic. “The bridge offers the public the opportunity to view and monitor the Molweni River, which is the only source of water for the Molweni community downstream.”
The public is advised that the Springside Nature Reserve will be closed on public holidays: Christmas Day (December 25), Family Day (December 26), and New Year (January 1).
