Hockey challenge swings into action in Hillcrest

Seven hockey school teams will be battling it out during the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls' Hockey Challenge at Curro Hillcrest.

THE first tournament of the year in the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge is set for this Saturday, March 8 at Curro Hillcrest where seven teams will take to Curro’s turf for the Highway Regional.

The host team take on Kloof High School in the first game at 08:00. Games will be 20 minutes long, with the day run in a round robin format.
Winning teams will earn four points on the log. Teams that draw with goals scored, will both share two points, while a goalless draw will earn both teams one point and a loss registers zero points on the log. The organisers have capped the maximum number of goals scored to seven. The top two teams will play in the regional final at 15:20.

Schools participating with Curro Hillcrest are Hillcrest High School, Kloof High School, St Mary’s DSG, Thomas More College, Waterfall College and Westville Girls’ High School.
This regional has produced two victorious teams that advanced to the grand finals. Both St Mary’s and Westville Girls’ High School have hoisted the trophy, with the Saints team defending both the regional trophy and overall Grand Finals title from last year.

The following day, Sunday, March 9, Durban Girls’ College hosts six schools for the Durban Central Regional.
The team crowned in the Highway Regional will head to the grand finals later this year at St Mary’s DSG, where they will meet nine other teams representing the various KZN regions.
