Rolling for a good cause

R380 000 was raised at the wheelchair challenge which is hosted annually by SBS Tanks to raise both funds and awareness for people living with disabilities.

DESPITE the rain on March 14, SBS Tanks hosted a successful annual wheelchair challenge event which raised both funds and awareness for those living with disabilities.

As of Friday afternoon, an amount of R380 000 was raised towards the R500 000 target. The wheelchair challenge co-ordinator, Ashleigh Gray, said they hope to achieve their target when the company holds a charity golf day in Cape Town this week.

“If anything, the rain served to highlight the difficulties experienced by those in wheelchairs when they have to navigate external factors such as the weather.”

Gray added that they are looking forward to seeing lives changed as a result of this initiative and expressed appreciation for the community support.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
