Kloof councillor attends to storm aftermath
Councillor Caelee Laing conveyed her gratitude to everyone who selflessly assisted in the heavy downpour.
THE recent floods hit Ward 10 badly and the area councillor, Caelee Laing, says the situation could have turned out worse if it was not for the patrollers and other roleplayers who braved the storm to assist.
On the day, Laing said their community groups were inundated with reports of cars stuck in flooded roads and roads being inaccessible.
“There were multiple trees which fell and blocked roads, we also received reports of damage to private property and damages to municipal infrastructure.

“The Kloof Street Patrols team came out in full force, assisting those stuck in cars, cutting away fallen trees causing safety hazards, and closing off roads.
“They literally swam across the flooded roads to rescue people that were stuck in the cars,” said a grateful councillor.
She also mentioned that the Kloof CPF chairperson, Samantha Shallcross, was instrumental in working with the patrollers and assisting the residents in the area.
“She has been working closely with myself throughout the aftermath of the storm. Over the past two weeks following the storm, I have been assessing and escalating numerous flood damages to municipal infrastructure around the ward.”

Since the storm, Laing mentioned that she has had meetings and site inspections with roleplayers as well as officials from the departments who deal with Roads and Stormwater to have severely damaged municipal infrastructure around Ward 10 assessed and attended to.
Laing reported that some roads have been badly undermined, many others damaged and stormwater infrastructure needs to be addressed.
“I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to the roleplayers in the affected areas who were out in the heavy rains assisting residents in these conditions,” she said.
