PINETOWN Girls’ High School collaborated with the Pinetown Clinic under the eThekwini Municipality recently to provide learners access to the Adolescent Youth Health Programme (AYHP) which focuses on improving the health and well-being of those aged 10-24.

On the day the girls queued patiently for various health screenings.

The school’s social worker, Noxolo Mnyaka, said the purpose of the day was to empower the girls to make informed decisions about their overall health, and reduce unintended pregnancies and other health risks by linking them to resources and providing education.

She said the objectives of AYHP are to provide comprehensive integrated sexual and reproductive health services.

“The programme prevents, tests and treats HIV/Aids, TB, sexually transmitted infections and non-communicable diseases.

“It reduces substance abuse and violence. It also promotes health nutrition and reduces obesity.”

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
