Malvern mother is passionate about women upliftment
Rekha Singh recently launched a campaign to donate sanitary towels to underprivileged schools.
A MALVERN resident is encouraging the public to try yoga which has helped her to balance a demanding career and motherhood and find solace.
Rekha Singh said yoga is more than just physical exercise; it’s like a holistic approach to well-being.
“From physical well-being, mental and emotional wellness to easing anxiety, reducing stress to minimising depression – yoga provides those benefits.”
Teaching yoga in her spare time, the chartered accountant said she has worked with private classes and served the community, be it senior citizens, children’s homes, or individuals on wheelchairs.

The mother of two who is vying for the Mrs KZN title is also running a campaign to collect 1000 packets of sanitary pads to stop period poverty.
“Our girls deserve dignity, confidence and equal right to education which comes from having access to sanitary pads. Girls often miss school five days a month during their periods. This affects their education as well as their future opportunities.
“The absence of menstrual hygiene products forces many girls to resort to unsafe and unhygienic practices, such as using rags, cloth, or even sand, which can lead to severe health complications.”
Singh, who visits many disadvantaged schools around Durban distributing the sanitary towels, told the Queesnburgh News that it is touching to see the smiles on the girls’ faces.
She is passionate about uplifting communities and was recently nominated for the South African Momtrepreneurs Icon award for Women in Mental Health Development & Empowerment.
Another award she was previously nominated for was the Women of South Africa Imbokodo Annual Award where influential women are acknowledged and celebrated for their contributions across various fields.
Her vision is to make yoga accessible to every person, especially disadvantaged communities, seniors, paraplegics and the youth so that they can incorporate mindfulness practise in their daily lives, thereby helping them find a peaceful, focused and balanced life.
