Police seize counterfeit alcohol worth R250 000

The alcohol, specifically vodka was found being manufactured at a site in Klaarwater, just outside Mariannhill.

A CASE of contravention of the liquor act and contravention of the counterfeit goods act involving a 31-year-old man in the Mariannhill area was remanded at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, June 25.

SAPS eThekwini District Communication officer, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said on Tuesday members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit (Narcotics), assisted by the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit and the Provincial Counterfeit Goods Unit, acted on intelligence-driven information regarding the manufacturing and illegal distribution of counterfeit alcohol.

“Members executed a search warrant at the identified premises and a suspect, 31 years of age, was found on-site and placed immediately under arrest.
Suspected counterfeit vodka to the street value of R250 000 was found being manufactured at the site in Klaarwater,” said Rhynes.
