Get back to Nature with the BotSoc Winter Holiday Programme
This July, the Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSoc) KZN Coastal Branch invites nature lovers (aged 10-15) to explore the hidden green spaces of eThekwini and connect with nature in a meaningful way. The BotSoc Winter Holiday Programme is more than just a holiday activity – it’s an opportunity to build a real connection with nature.

Over three stand-alone days, participants will journey through two of Durban’s iconic protected areas – Burman Bush Nature Reserve (July 14) and Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve (July 16) – and uncover the fascinating ecosystems of forests, estuaries, and dunes. On the final day (July 18) they will explore the Durban Botanic Gardens, Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden and a ‘living library’ of plant species from SA and beyond.

Durban Art Gallery exhibits at ECR House and Garden Show
Durban Art Gallery (DAG) will showcase the work of a selection of the city’s brightest, most exciting, emerging artists alongside that of a selection of experienced, established artists at the ECR House and Garden Show at the Durban Exhibition Centre until July 6.

Exhibiting artists are: Joseph Manana (painting); Clive Sithole (pottery); Thobi Shange (painting); Frank Sesing Morai (ceramics); Mzamo Mlambo (mixed media); Niamh Walsh-Vorster (photography); Ncamisile Nala (pottery); Njabulo Vezi (painting); Sboniso Sithole (painting); Lungisani Ndlovu (woodcut); Manqoba Bhengu (painting); and Mzamo Dlungwana (charcoal).

Make the mark
The Decorative Arts Society’s presentation on Making Marks with Joan – a presentation and demonstration by Durban mixed-media artist Joan Martin – will take place on Tuesday, July 15 from 12:30 to 13:30 at the Visitors’ Centre, Durban Botanic Gardens. The fee is R50 for members and R80 for visitors. Refreshments will be served after the lecture. Contact Lynne on 083 281 2994.

Riaad Moosa – What’s the Point?
Award-winning comedian, presenter, writer, and actor, Dr Riaad Moosa, is back with his brand-new comedy show, What’s the Point?

Known as “The Comedy Doctor” for seamlessly blending medicine with humour, Moosa takes audiences on a hilarious and thought-provoking journey as he grapples with the absurdity of life and the chaotic state of the world. Audiences can be sure to expect nothing less than a masterclass in comedy from one of South Africa’s most beloved performers.
The show will take place at Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on July 15 at 19:30.

Annie finds new lease on life
The Young Performers Project in association with Dalro and The Playhouse Company presents Annie the musical from July 4-13.
Annie is the heart-warming story of a spirited young orphan who finds a new lease on life when she’s taken in by billionaire Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks during the Great Depression. With her unwavering optimism and infectious charm, Annie brings joy to everyone around her — especially Warbucks himself.
This beloved musical celebrates hope, family, and resilience, making it a timeless favourite for audiences of all ages.
The show will take place at The Playhouse, Opera Theatre. Tickets are available from Webtickets from R150-R280.

Avatar, the story of life
Avatar: The Story of Life – Radha Krishna, the timeless epic of love and devotion, will transport the audience back in time to the era of Radha and Krishna.
Inspired by ancient epics, Avatar, based on a true story, weaves a captivating storyline featuring mesmerising dances, stunning costumes, state-of-the-art lighting, and superb LED backgrounds.
The show takes place on July 11 at the iZulu Theatre, Sibaya, from 14:00.

Salsa on the Square

Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a curious first-timer, this is an invitation to join a free, monthly Latin-themed evening, with a live band. Inspired by the romance and rhythm of European plazas and Cuban courtyards, join local dancer Mel Rijnvis and the growing local Salsa dance community for an outdoor evening of dance.

Sunday Sounds

Each Sunday from 12:00-15:00,  a line-up of Durban’s finest musicians, take to the stage in The Barn at Westown Square for three hours of live music.

Westown Square is dog-friendly to all dogs on leashes. Cyclists are also welcome to push their bikes in the high streets and use the bike racks in The Square.
