The end of August brings with it markets, music events and comedy shows. If you're looking for family fun, a relaxing afternoon out - either a solo date or with friends - we've got you covered with a list of events below.

Musical moments
The KZN Philharmonic Early Spring Season will be staged at the Playhouse Opera Theatre on Thursday, August 28. The concert is conducted by Brandon Phillips and Daniel Boico and ends on September 4.
Two free one-hour performances take place at The Pavilion (Fountain Court, Cinema Level) on Sunday, August 31 at 11:00 and 13:00. It will be conducted by Chad Hendricks with guest artists from UKZN Opera School and International School of Performing Arts. Audiences can look forward to a vibrant selection of orchestral favourites, arias and show tunes.
An Indian musical extravaganza hits the stage at the playTSOGO Globe at Suncoast Casino on Saturday, August 30 from 19:00 to 22:00. Indian Idols, Manasi, Priyangsh and Nitin Kumar will be joined by Superstar Singer 3, Avirbhav, and accompanied by musicians from India.
Catch the Durban City Orchestra at St Thomas Church on Sunday, August 31, at 15:00 for an afternoon concert of baroque, classical and romantic concerts featuring the orchestra’s soloists. Tickets cost R130 per person and R100 for pensioners and students via Quicket or at the door.

It’s a family affair
Familie Fest 2025 takes place on Saturday, August 30, at the NU Driving Range Fields in Shongweni.
The event is all about family and bonding vibes, featuring a vibrant, live music concert, delicious food, and arts and crafts. Tickets start from R199 at Webtickets. Gates open at 10:00.
Market mania
Don’t miss Durban’s newest last Sunday tradition – Last Sundays: Month End Market. It’s all happening at Morningside Sports Club on Sunday, August 31, from 09:00 to 15:00. The market features artisan food, arts, crafts, and live music.
The SPCA Durban market takes place on Saturday, August 30, at their premises in Springfield Park from 08:00 to midday. A variety of items will be on sale such as clothing, shoes, bags, novelty items, seasonal items, jewellery, toys, glasses, and vases. The charity shop and book room will also be open. On-site coffee shop available.
Laugh out loud
Laugh away your troubles with Darren Maule, Muthu Murugan, Bash with Tash, Darrien Asbury, Nabeel Peer, Sagie Murugan, Annalakshmi, and Logie Naidoo at the Legends of Laughter show at playTSOGO Globe, Suncoast on Friday, August 29, at 19:00. Tickets start from R150 and are available via Ticketpro and SPAR outlets
JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience
Join the free workshops for dancers, dance-makers and arts practitioners taking place this week.

JOMBA! Talks

Post-show artist conversations at the Stable Theatre with Sbo Ndaba, Oulouy, Barbara Diaz Rios, Greg Homann, Sunnyboy Motau, Didier Boutiana, Hannah Ma and Asanda Ruda.
