25 taxis operating without permits impounded in New Germany
Metro police said they will continue with these operations for the safety of the commuters and other road users.
TWENTY-FIVE taxis were impounded between Clermont and Pinetown for operating without valid route permits during a Durban Metro Police operation this morning, Friday, August 29.
According to Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu the operation was started a few weeks ago in central Durban.
On Thursday, Zungu said the operation was active in KwaDabeka and Inanda to ensure compliance with road safety laws.

“During the KwaDabeka operation, eight taxis were suspended from the public road, one driver was arrested for using a fraudulent number plate, a Mercedes-Benz plate displayed on a Toyota Quantum.
“Members also impounded one taxi found on the public road after it was suspended,” reported Zungu.
In the Inanda (Emtshebheni) Operation, police suspended 10 vehicles from the public road for unroadworthiness.
“These operations form part of our continued commitment to road safety, by-law enforcement, and protecting passengers and other road users. The Durban Metro Police remains committed to upholding law and order, ensuring compliance with the rules of the road, and safeguarding the lives of commuters and other road users.”
Zungu urged all operators to comply with regulations and operate responsibly.
