Biker killed in Upper Highway crash

The paramedics were kept busy this afternoon as they also responded to a shocking incident on Spine Road where a truck container fell onto a passing vehicle.

A BIKER has been killed this afternoon (Tuesday, September 23) on Everton Road in Everton, Gillitts, following a serious crash involving two motorbikes and a vehicle.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find that two motorbikes and a vehicle had collided.

“Paramedics assessed one of the riders and found a male believed to be 50 years had sustained multiple injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.”

According to Jamieson, the second rider sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

“The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision,” reported Jamieson.

In a separate incident, two drivers were injured when a truck container fell onto a passing vehicle on Harry Gwala Road (old Spine Road) just after the Pavilion Shopping Centre.

Jamieson said paramedics were shocked to find that a truck’s container had overturned, coming to rest on top of a passing vehicle.

He said a second vehicle was also involved.

“Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the two drivers of the light motor vehicles had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital.”

It is alleged that the truck driver ran away from the scene.

Jamieson added that the roadway will be obstructed for some time to allow for recovery operation.
