The four-year-old girl died on the scene after sustaining multiple injuries. The other injured accident victims were stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital.

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl has died following a horrific head-on collision on Richmond Road near Trafford Road in Westmead this evening (Wednesday, October 15).

“Immediately the eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist. Together with Redline Response Rescue the firefighters used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to extricate the two.

“Once freed the patients were carefully extricated and placed into awaiting ambulances,” said Jamieson.

According to the paramedics spokesperson, in one of the vehicles there was a family of four, including two girls, aged four and six.

“Unfortunately the four-year-old little girl had sustained multiple injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for her and she was declared deceased on the scene.

“The remaining family members had all sustained serious injuries and once stabilised on the scene they were transported to nearby hospitals,” said Jamieson.

He added that the driver and only occupant of the second vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

*The article has been amended to state that the girl who died was 6 years old and not 4 years old as initially reported.
