Talent shines at Wyebank concert

Venessa Pillay, the programme director, says there were amazing performances from children who had never performed before.

THE Wyebank Hindu Temple and the Wyebank Women’s Forum hosted a Sarasvathie Concert on Sunday, October 12 at the Wyebank Temple Hall.

A platform was provided for children and adults from their community to showcase their talents.

Venessa Pillay, the programme director, said there were amazing performances from children who had never performed before.

“They shone like bright stars. They say it takes a village to raise a child and that was truly evident at this concert. The parents’ support and involvement was truly remarkable. The rehearsals and dressing up are hard work but the essence and rewards of this concert were achieved by the bonds the children and parents formed, the cheering and encouragement to each other, the high fives and hugs at the end of a performance, and not forgetting the lessons and values learnt from the scriptures. These were priceless and invaluable lessons to witness. This is how we train our children for the world to be team players,” said Pillay.

She urged parents to make time for at least one cultural activity a week.

The Wyebank Temple has free yoga lessons on Saturdays 08:00-09:00 at the hall, 23 Temple Road, and prayer services on Mondays from 18:00- 19:00 at the temple.
