Truck accident causes chaos on the N3

A truck carrying brand new vehicles lost its load on the N3 near the Pavilion offramp, causing a pile-up involving several cars.

MOTORISTS have been advised to avoid the N3 Durban bound near the Pavilion offramp just after Pinetown where a truck accident has caused mayhem this morning.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said ambulances had to go contraflow to reach the scene as a truck which was carrying brand new vehicles lost some of its cargo and caused the Durban bound  freeway to be closed.

“The driver of the truck had sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.”

Whilst this incident was being attended to, Jamieson reported that a four-vehicle pile-up occured behind it, leaving two people injured.

“The crash occured just after Paradise Valley Durban bound. Paramedics stabilised the two patients before transporting them to nearby hospitals,” said Jamieson.

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said their  team from Road Traffic Inspectorate working with Durban Metro Police is managing the traffic flow.

“Importantly, we are working with the National Minister of Transport Barbra Creecy to fast-track the transition of cargo from road to rail.”
