Pinetown family reunited with missing dog Luna after six months

A Pinetown family has been joyfully reunited with their dog, Luna, but their search continues for her missing companion, Rocket.

AFTER six  months of heartbreak and searching, a Pinetown family has received some wonderful news – their beloved pet Luna has been found!

Luna and her companion Rocket went missing together in April 2025. While Luna has been safely recovered, Rocket is still missing.
Owner Danielle Houston said their two “fur babies” were last seen at around 22:15 on April 16 in Radwin Road, Cowies Hill.

“Luna was discovered on Wednesday, October 22, in the Reservoir Hills area and taken in by a concerned resident who fed, bathed, and cared for her,” said Houston.

The resident noticed how well Luna responded to commands and suspected she had an owner. Luna was then taken to a local vet, where a scan of her microchip confirmed her identity, leading to an emotional reunion with her family.

“Besides being underweight and treated for worms and biliary, Luna is on the mend and getting all the love she deserves. We’re overjoyed that our baby is finally home,  the past six months have been devastating,” said a grateful Houston.

Upon reuniting with her family, Houston said Luna remembered their voices, “We hugged her and she rolled over with joy. It was overwhelming for all of us. When we drove up to our front gate at home, she started bouncing with excitement. She knew she’s home.

“It’s a true miracle and blessing. While we nurse her back to good health we won’t take our focus off searching for Rocket,” said Houston.

Although the family never stopped searching, Luna’s discovery has renewed their hope that Rocket will also be found.

The Houstons are now pleading for help in locating Rocket and are offering a reward for his safe return.
