Second suspect arrested for Kloof armed robbery

The two vehicles that were used during a business robbery were recovered with some of the stolen items still inside.

PINETOWN SAPS have arrested a second suspect following a business robbery at a jewellery shop in the Fields Hill Shopping Complex, Kloof, on Friday.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu it is alleged that three suspects, including one woman, entered the shop at gunpoint and stole jewellery valued at approximately R400 000.

“An unarmed security guard was present at the scene. The shop owner was reported to have sustained injuries.”

Naidu reported that when the suspects fled the scene, police responded and chased the suspects.

“During the police pursuit, the suspects opened fire on officers, and police returned fire. One suspect was apprehended during the chase. A second suspect was later arrested when he went to a police station to report a false carjacking.”

She added that two vehicles used in the robbery were recovered, and some of the stolen jewellery was recovered from these vehicles.

“One police vehicle sustained bullet damage, and a member sustained a minor injury near the eye. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported.”
