BOLD Global Alliance launches in SA

HACT launches the BOLD Global Alliance to drive women’s empowerment and fight GBV through sport, leadership and community action.

THE Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT) proudly hosted the official launch of the BOLD Global Alliance recently, marking the start of South Africa’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV).

The BOLD Global Alliance is an international movement rooted in the PEPAS initiative (Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport) for girls and women.

Through sport and education, it aims to promote physical and mental health, gender equality and improved access to sport and leadership development.

BOLD founder Kreena Govender described the launch as “a celebration of shared purpose, strength, and the collective will to create lasting change for women and girls”.

She called for unity, investment in girls’ dreams, and support for survivors, urging everyone to be bold in building a fair and strong future.

HACT CEO Candace Moolman added, “Our hosting and partnership with the BOLD Global Alliance strengthens our collective effort to build a South Africa where respect, safety, and the opportunity of sport are open to all. We want to see this model stand as an example of what can be achieved through strategic and intentional collaboration.”

The launch aimed to:

  • Showcase the power of sport and physical activity (PEPAS) to advance women’s and girls’ health, rights, and empowerment.
  • Celebrate HACT’s 35-year legacy of community-led health and activism.
  • Strengthen partnerships between government, civil society, sports, and the private sector.
  • Inspire action and shared leadership to end gender-based violence and promote gender equality.

The partnership between HACT and BOLD Global Alliance signifies a powerful alignment of purpose, combining HACT’s grassroots experience with BOLD’s global, PEPAS-based empowerment model.
