IN PICS: Pinetown SAPS celebrates the month of love

Valentine’s Day was more than a symbolic occasion for Pinetown SAPS, it was a lived expression of service, care and unity.

AN early Valentine’s Day celebration at Pinetown SAPS transformed Friday the 13th into a vibrant display of unity, compassion and community spirit.

Rejecting superstition, members of the station embraced the occasion by dressing in bright colours associated with love, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the premises.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu said this initiative extended beyond an internal celebration, reaching nearly 100 community members through a thoughtful outreach programme at the Community Service Centre.

In partnership with Master Wholesalers, the station distributed cooldrinks and treats to visitors seeking assistance on the hot day.

“The refreshments were warmly received by a diverse cross-section of the community, including young children with their parents, youth, adults and elderly residents.”

While routine policing duties such as opening cases, commissioning affidavits and certifying documents continued uninterrupted, Naidu said the day carried an added focus on awareness and support.

Captain Savashnie Govender, Captain Kamleni Devnanen and Admin Clerk Trisha Gopal.

“Informative pamphlets addressing HIV awareness, domestic violence and available support services were handed out to visitors. A social worker from LifeLine joined the station’s communications officer in engaging openly with members of the public.

Sergeant Nomfundo Mlotshwa, Captain Bongeka Mthembu, senior admin clerk Happiness Mbanjwa and Sergeant Sboniso Shezi.

“Visitors sought advice, asked questions about available resources and enquired about the process of joining the South African Police Service, fostering an atmosphere of trust and dialogue,” added Naidu.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
